Rye and Hastings

Rye and Hastings are two of the five Cinque Ports given a Royal Charter in 1155 to maintain ships ready for the Crown in case of need. Rye has delightful black and white half timbered houses some over 400 years old. Of course Hastings is made famous by the Battle of Hastings in 1066.


Built on a cliff Hastings has an impressive funicular railway connecting the East Hill county park to the beach below.
